Why Rajasthan

Forts, palaces and desert skies

Rajasthan is India at its most royal: hilltop forts, lake palaces, painted havelis and the golden dunes of the Thar. Distances are long, so we plan the route and the pace around you.

Heritage havelis and palace hotels, or comfortable modern stays.

Hill forts and lake palaces

Amber, Mehrangarh, Kumbhalgarh and Jaisalmer, and Udaipur’s City Palace on Lake Pichola.

Nights in the Thar Desert

Camel rides at sunset and a camp under the stars near Jaisalmer.

Your route, your pace

From 7 to 15 days, with Pushkar, Ranthambore or offbeat towns added as you like.

Plan your trip

When to visit Rajasthan

  • October to March: the best season, with warm days and cool nights; ideal for forts, palaces and the desert.
  • April to June: very hot, especially in the desert; we plan early starts and long afternoon breaks.
  • July to September: the monsoon turns Udaipur and the Aravalli hills green, with fewer visitors.

Festivals such as the Pushkar Camel Fair and the Jaisalmer Desert Festival follow the lunar calendar, so their dates move each year. Ask us and we will plan around them.

Where you will go

The royal cities

  • Jaipur

The Pink City: Amber Fort, the City Palace, Hawa Mahal and lively bazaars.
  • Udaipur

The City of Lakes, with palaces on Lake Pichola and the Aravalli hills around.
  • Jodhpur

The Blue City below the great Mehrangarh Fort.
  • Jaisalmer

The Golden City, its living fort and the dunes of the Thar Desert.

How many days do I need for Rajasthan?

Seven days covers Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur. Ten to fifteen days lets you add Jaisalmer and the desert, Pushkar, Ranthambore or offbeat towns.

Can I stay in heritage or palace hotels?

Yes. Tell us your style and budget, and we will suggest havelis and palace hotels along your route.

How long are the drives?

Usually four to six hours between cities, with stops on the way. We break the longest legs with a night in between.

Can I combine Rajasthan with the Taj Mahal?

Yes. Many travellers start in Delhi, see the Taj Mahal in Agra and continue to Jaipur and the rest of Rajasthan.

When is the best time to go?

October to March. April to June is very hot, and the monsoon arrives in July.
