The Pink City, the Blue City and the City of Lakes on one private circuit
Book a 7-day private Rajasthan tour. Explore Amber Fort in Jaipur, Mehrangarh Fort in Jodhpur, Ranakpur Jain Temple, & Lake Pichola in Udaipur with private driver.
A week is enough to feel the range of Rajasthan if the route is chosen with care. This journey uses three cities that each show a different side of the state: Jaipur for its palaces and bazaars, Jodhpur for its enormous fort above a maze of blue-washed lanes, and Udaipur for its lakes and courtyards.
You travel by private car with a driver, spend two nights in each city, and stop at the Ranakpur Jain temples between Jodhpur and Udaipur. Sightseeing is guided, but the days leave room for markets, viewpoints and unhurried evenings.
It suits first-time visitors to Rajasthan, couples and families who want a full picture of the state without a long holiday, and returning travellers who want a compact loop.
You are met on arrival in Jaipur and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is free. An evening walk through the local markets is a good introduction to the city, or you may ask about a cultural evening at Chokhi Dhani, a village-style venue known for Rajasthani music, dance and food.
The morning belongs to Amber Fort, a hilltop fort-palace above the old capital of the Kachwaha rulers. On the drive back you stop for photographs at Jal Mahal on Man Sagar Lake.
In the city, the City Palace houses museums and courtyards still linked to the royal family, and Jantar Mantar, a UNESCO-listed collection of astronomical instruments, shows the scientific ambitions of Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II. Hawa Mahal, the honeycombed Palace of Winds, completes the central sights.
For sunset, Nahargarh Fort offers a view across the city, and the bazaars stay open into the evening.
After breakfast you drive west to Jodhpur, about 340 km and 5 to 6 hours away. After checking in, you walk into Mehrangarh Fort, where the museum, courtyards and viewpoints give a close look at Rathore court life and the blue city below.
Later, the Clock Tower and Sardar Market provide a lively end to the day, with stalls selling spices, textiles and handicrafts.
The day begins with Jaswant Thada, a marble cenotaph built in 1899 and surrounded by quiet gardens. Umaid Bhawan Palace follows, part of which operates as a heritage hotel and part as a museum.
If time and interest allow, Mandore Gardens can be added, and the afternoon is well spent walking through the old city, where the houses are painted in shades of blue.
This is a long driving day, so an early start is advisable. The distance to Udaipur is about 260 km. The main stop is Ranakpur, where the marble Jain temple, dedicated to Adinatha, is known for its 1,444 individually carved pillars. Non-Jain visitors are admitted from around midday, so the timing of the drive is planned around it.
You arrive in Udaipur in the evening. The total duration depends on the time spent at Ranakpur and on traffic.
In the morning you visit the City Palace, whose balconies and courtyards overlook Lake Pichola, followed by Jagdish Temple in the old city and Saheliyon Ki Bari, the garden of the maidens.
The afternoon is free. In the late afternoon, an optional boat ride on Lake Pichola passes Jag Mandir and the palace walls.
After breakfast you are taken to Udaipur airport for your onward journey, ending the tour.
It is enough for a satisfying introduction based on three cities. Travellers who also want Jaisalmer’s desert or extra stops such as Pushkar should consider a longer itinerary.
Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur each show a different side of Rajasthan: palaces and bazaars, a huge fort above a blue old city, and a lakeside setting.
