Overview

Witness the Taj Mahal under the moonlight. Includes full moon night viewing tickets, private AC car transfers, Agra hotel pickup, & local expert guidance.

Night viewing at the Taj Mahal is not available year-round — it opens for just five nights around each full moon, and only in small, timed batches. This Taj Mahal full moon night viewing tour is built entirely around that narrow window, combining a full day of Agra sightseeing with the night viewing slot itself, one of the few ways to see the monument after dark.

Because the permit and batch system limits numbers strictly, this Taj Mahal night tour needs to be planned against the lunar calendar well ahead of your travel dates.

Day-by-day itinerary

1
Day 1Daytime Agra Sightseeing & Night Viewing of the Taj Mahal

Morning / midday: Spend the day on regular Agra sightseeing — a visit to the Taj Mahal during normal daytime hours (entry tickets valid for three hours) followed by Agra Fort, the red sandstone complex that once housed the Mughal court.

Evening: After dinner, head to the Taj Mahal for the night viewing slot. Visitors are admitted in small batches — around 50 people at a time — for approximately 30 minutes each, between 8:30 PM and 12:30 AM.

Night: Night viewing tickets must be secured at least 24 hours in advance through the ASI office in Agra, and only on one of the five nights per lunar month when this is offered: the full moon night itself, plus two nights before and two nights after. It is not available on Fridays or during Ramzan. This tour therefore needs its dates fixed around the lunar calendar for your travel month — your consultant can confirm the exact eligible nights before booking.

Questions about this tour

How many nights a month can you see the Taj Mahal at night?

Five nights per lunar cycle: the full moon night itself, plus the two nights before and two nights after.

What are the Taj Mahal night viewing hours?

8:30 PM to 12:30 AM, with visitors admitted in small timed batches rather than free movement through the complex.

How far in advance do I need to book Taj Mahal night viewing tickets?

Night viewing tickets must be booked at least 24 hours ahead, directly through the ASI office in Agra.

Is Taj Mahal night viewing available every month, on any date I choose?

No — it's tied strictly to the lunar calendar, and unavailable on Fridays or during Ramzan, so travel dates need to be planned around the eligible nights.

How long do visitors get inside during a night viewing batch?

Each batch is admitted for approximately 30 minutes, with around 50 visitors per batch.

Can I do daytime sightseeing on the same day as the night viewing?

Yes — this itinerary combines a normal day of Taj Mahal and Agra Fort sightseeing with the night viewing slot in the same evening.

Why is a full moon Taj Mahal tour worth planning around?

It's one of the only ways to see the Taj Mahal after dark, under moonlight, away from the density of the regular daytime crowds — a genuinely different experience of a very familiar monument.
